I never said that. If a monopoly exists because people choose not to compete, that's one thing, but if a monopoly exists because it's illegal to compete, that's a much different issue. @The Last American Vagabond I think there is still potential resistance to digital ID through existing legal means - in the end the digital ID system is coercive and discriminatory which is against existing legal principles as well as ancient and modern constitutional ethics. Therefore apart from these very interesting conversations to raise awareness it will be good when large numbers of people would start writing letters and legal notices to “government”, key individuals and corporate entities to challenge participation in what many of us believe to be a re-introduction of slavery. Imagine - the UK Labour government is re-introducing slavery! In a pre-COVID world, I signed up for Real ID—presumably, an American precursor to digital ID—and carried it, without noticeable effect, for some years. When it came time to renew, I stood in a crowded Department of Motor Vehicles, and discreetly asked to be returned to my former, non-Real ID licensed status. (I expect information collected will be retained, even if, ostensibly, deleted.) The request was unusual, for my clerk stood up, loudly addressed a colleague across the room, explained my request, and asked what to do. Several other clerks consulted, asking me, “Why?” My perfidy was thereby fully exposed, but I walked out, driver’s license in hand.

Very quietly, at US gas stations, it says in small print on the pump handle that it can only be used by 'licensed" drives.....simply not implemented yet, but the infrastructure is in place.
I'm not as alarmed as we already had a control system via credit scores.
Credit scores are even more screwed up as they're propietary , meaning you can't find out how they're determined.
Plus, the corporations that do these credit scores are difficult to deal with when you need to clear up false information.
At least the government would be held accountable.

Hi, I'm standard oil and I'll charge less than you or other competitors.
Once you and others go out of business , I raise prices.
Nobody else has the capital to compete.
How does free market fix this?
Another example.... You own land and farm.
I buy the land upstream river from you and others.
If you don't pay my fees, I'll dam the river and sell to others at a better price.
