Never attribute to incompetence what can easily be explained by evil intent.

I was in Boulder in a shooting range (a narrow canyon with sides too steep to climb) when the FourMile Canyon Fire started in 2010. The only way out was towards the flames shooting into the air 500? feet. As we drove towards the fire to get out my thought was 'Thank God we have guns' because burning to death in a car with family and friends was possibly the only other NIGHTMARE option. These tragedies talk about how many people died but never focus on the extreme pain and horror of the dying. If that was actually discussed we would own the fact that in 2023 people don't have an emergency peaceful pill as an exit strategy if we find ourselves in an inescapable death situation. Ignoring the need and the right to have such a pill speaks to the fact that we are still a barbaric civilization. (In the meantime always have a gun tucked away safe but near by.)
